Shimano Syncopate

worth the money

I fish every other week and only use reels with the quick-fire trigger. Unfortunately Shimano is the only reliable company that makes them. I have been using this version for the last couple of years, and although they are not indestructible, they do usually work for a year before breaking. In my opinion, if they last a year then I've gotten my money's worth. As stated in another review, I have one that appears to have a problem with the gears and I'm hoping a little grease will fix it.
Regardless, I will continue to purchase these reels.

Shimano Syncopate

I am a very serious and committed fisherman - have hundreds of rods and reels, fish for anything and everything in fresh & salt, and I fish almost every day. I got my first QuickFire reels as part of rod & reel combos that I bought at a liquidation. Never even saw, much less tried QuickFire before. I removed the QuickFire reels from the combos, used the foremerly combo rods with some of my traditional spinning reels, and put the unused QuickFire reels in my overstock box with the intent of selling them. But before selling the QuickFire reels I decided to try one to see if it was just a gimmick or really useful and to see how the reel peformed. I hooked myself on QuickFire reels better than I have ever hooked any fish, and the reason is that the QuickFire feature allows you to make single handed casts with no wasted motions very rapidly - just as rapidly as a skilled baitcaster can with a baitcasting reel. However, the QuickFire spinning reels have a BIG advantage over baitcasting reels: you can easily cast very much lighter baits much longer distances, with much fewer casting bird's nests, with QuickFire spinning than you can with any baitcasting reel because of the physics of intertia and momentum required to move and then stop the baitcasting reel spool. I routinely use my QuickFire spinning reels with 6lb test braid and 1/8 oz jigs on 8ft and 9ft rods and can easily cast 25ft-35ft and recast with one hand the instant that I have retrieved - you cannot do that with any other reel. After I made this discovery, I switched over to QuickFire spinning reels for all my low-end fishing that the available QuickFire spinning reel range can cover and am instead selling all of my low-end conventional spinning reels. I am always amazed at how much can be discovered by just trying new technology, techniques, etc. Really pays to keep an open mind and try everything.

excellent reel

By far, one of the better reels I've purchased for inlake and river fishing.
The drag and release are very easy to set while on the fly fishing and the quick release trigger makes jigging and recasting second nature. There's no more fumbling trying to get the line set, flip the bar, cast and relock... it's simply reel it in, grab the quick release and line together in a single swoop of your finger and cast.

My second Quickfire Reel! It is very dependable and I am sure it will last as long as my 1st - still in use 17+ yrs.
