Got 3 SS tournament reels. Bought these maybe 20 years ago. 700, 1300, 1600. I wish Diawa made a true ultra lite version, I'd have 4 of these and may when I go for the 2600. Best reel for the money you can buy, my opinion. These reels are super simple, bullet proof and cast like nothing else. The drag system is as well the best I have used. A true jewel...just sayin

I am 60 and have been fishing since I was 5. I tried them all and I own a couple of reels that cost as much as a hand gun. This is the best Reel for the money and it excels where it counts. Great drag, Dependability, and long smooth casting. I have a SS700 and A 1300 and would never sell them. Five stars.

Great REEL

This is still the Most reliable Reel on the market today
It will out cast the 750.00 Shimanos. I know I have one.
it Reel is not the smoothest due to only three bearings But the Drag is one of the best if not the best on the market.
The Kid complaining about his DADS reels is just that a KID
Too bad this reel don't have an Instant anti reverse but that is due to the Infowlable Bail system that will never break.
If you want LONG Casts and a Unbreakable Reel you can trust for vacations or long trips this is the reel for you
Not the lightest Not the prettiest Not the smoothest
But it does the job better than all others.
it has been n the market longer than any other reel has EVER
other than the old Mitchel 300
Buy this for the Price..Durability...drag system and for the longest casting reel on the market

This series of reels are some of the best around.
Have several models in this series from Daiwa and use them in salt and freshwater and never a single hitch.

I have used these reels for the past 15-20 years. I own multiple reels in all three sizes and use the 700 for trout and crappie. The 1300 for finesse and the 1600 for heavier lines and lures.
I have throughly enjoyed these reels and they have been totally trouble free.

Absolute worst reel i have ever used

My dad bought this reel for me because he really likes his. the reel is terrible! the anti-reverse doesn't work all, it feels like there are rocks in the crank it is not smooth at all, you cant switch the handle over to the other side without a screwdriver, and i know i didn't get a lemon because my dad has 5 of them. I think the only reason he likes them is because he bought them a long time ago, back when they would have been a decent reel about 10 years ago. but thats a long time ago as far as reels go. they are outdated and for half the price you can get a pflueger or shimano that is 10 times better and for the same price you can get a shimano that is 10000 times better. i would not spend 5 dollars on this reel.
do NOT buy one of these

Best Reel for the Money

Have been using these reels for nearly 10 years and average 75 trips per year. With extra capacity spool, this reel will outcast for distance any on the market and costs about 1/3 to 1/2 of what the newer reels go for today.
The drag is easy to adjust and the reel handle is much nicer than many of the torpedo styles on the market.
The reel will last for years with occasional parts replacement for the bail arm and roller collar, parts that are inexpensive and easy to obtain from the manufacturer.

A Timeless Masterpiece

For years all my lightweight lure spinning work has been carried out with either Shimano Stradic or Symetre 1000 size reels . They have served me very well but for a long time I have had this nagging doubt that I might be missing out by never having tried a Daiwa SS700 .
The Daiwa SS700 is not available here in England so I recently bought one. All that you guys in the States say about this reel is true . Good though my Shimano are , my recently acquired SS 700 is better. It can consistently outcast the Shimanos and the smoothness of the drag is in a class of its own. A 13 lb 2 oz Pike tested the reel on its first outing. The drag was absolutely flawless.
This is a truly great reel.
If you can afford one , do get one , you will not be disappointed by its performance or quality.

I now own four of these reels. The drag system on these beauties is unsurpassed. Handles 8-10 pound walleyes flawlessly, when paired with a 7 1/2 foot XML rod for slip-bobbering.
