Okuma Coronado Baitfeeder

A fine live bait reel

Great reel! Line feeder works better than the Shimano Baitfeeder.
I'm impressed, especially for the price.
I recommend this reel.

Not a durable reel, cheap plastic body/frame

2/23/2013 10:47:26 AM 1 of 5 stars 1 out of 5 stars

The body is cheap plastic and the reel is very flimsy...
I would not use it for big fish... I had the 55 and the stem between the mounting point at the reel seat and the main body snapped in half while trying to reel in a 3 lb blue catfish... I take very good care of my equipment and, upon examining the reel, I noticed that the plastic stem is EXTREMELY thin... It's a terrible design and is guaranteed to fail eventually...
The crazy thing is that I have an okuma avenger, which is a CHEAPER model, and it has a decent frame/body and doesn't seem nearly as weak...
None of Okuma's products compare to American Made Penn Reels or Japanese Shimanos when it comes to durability... But hey, they're cheap...
I would not recommend the coronado, however, the Avengers get the job done and don't appear to be as flimsy...
I guess you get what you pay for

Quality Reel at a Great Price

I haven't had the pleasure of using the reel yet but it appears to be very sturdy and has a quality feel to it. Plan to use 20 lb Fireline on it and I think it will work perfect!

Great price, mediocre reel

2/5/2013 10:49:01 AM 3 of 5 stars 3 out of 5 stars

Overall, the reel is mediocre. The price is good for the features, about half the price of the Shimano Baitrunner D. My drag for the bait feature is only marginal. It has little adjustment and the drag is too weak even for a bait fish. The spool needs to be tweaked a little too, mine makes a noise when I reel in and is caused by the flimsy retaining clip for the oversized washer on the bottom of the spool. A very small complaint is that the line clip is difficult to engage.

Okuma Coronado 40. Excellent

2/4/2013 11:21:24 AM 5 of 5 stars 5 out of 5 stars

Unlike some other fishermen out there I,m an OKUMA fan. While I have some more expensive brand reels, for salt water
applications, my Okumas never let me down! I have a few, including 2 Coronados, Epixors, Avengers, work very nice, never brake down. And for the price they come with, it's my go to brand when I need a very good reel at an even better price!

too small

12/10/2012 11:20:29 AM 4 of 5 stars 4 out of 5 stars

when I researched this reel,I thought I found my ideal reel. light, strong, with good line capacity. I had some doubts so I inquired about the line capacity, according to the manufacturer the reel should hold 260 yards of 12 lb test line. or so I was told? when I received the reel, my response was " no way ".on close examination of the reel spool I found the capacity as 170 yards of 12 lb test ( in very tiny lettering ). the only way you can get 260 yards of 12 lb test or close to that, is use braided line. problem resolved, thank you modern technology.
