Best Casting Reel I have Ever Used

I bought my 250 DC used on a 9 ft GL2 for $250. What a deal. This reel has never backlashed on me. It cast a mile and a half. You can't go wrong.

Best real I''ve ever touched

I've had several large stripers on and landed them in the past two weeks. I also caught and released an over sized sturgeon approx. 90 lbs. Took about 30 minutes. I have two of the Calcutta TE DC reels and they are worth every penny that they cost. My fishing partner also has two of the reels and is talking about buying another one.
JUST SO HE'LL HAVE MORE THAN ME.

Excellent backlash control

I usually use spinning reels and have very little experience or opportunity to practice with a casting reel.
I can cast from the get go with this reel without any backlashes.
I bought this reel to go on a Peacock Bass fishing trip in which the casting reel works better than a spinning reel

Best Lipless Crankbait Reel Ever

2012-11-26T15:10:23

This reel meets the expectations generated from its publicity. I put on 12 lb smooth casting mono and after making settings cast my
most horrible lure, a 3/4 oz spinnerbait that casts like a twisting ball of fluff. With a little practice my settings went to the next to the lightest and I muscled the lure into the wind with all my strength and with great pleasure watched the arching line drop the
lure a long way off without a backlash. My feelings of insanity over paying so much were subsiding with each cast. Go for it.

Quality Plus & Precision

This reel is truly a marvel and both a gem to look at, and to use. The electronic braking system actually works just as Shimano has stated and advertised.
The set up is the usual and easy with just two settings to contend with.
First; Turn the spool knob to a position that the bait just slowly falls downwards when you click the bail. ( you can adjust it minutely later when your actually casting ). This spool knob and the drag setting, and magnetic dial knob, all have audible clicks.
Secondly ; I found that the third dot on the magnet setting dial ( from the Minimum position - minimum position is the first dot ) was the very best all around magnetic strength position for all surface lures ( Meadow Mice etc ) and all 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz Rapala and other buck tail jigs and lures as well. I Never got one backlash with these two settings in place, and simply increased the magnet strength to a 4 or a 5 position when faced with a head wind.
I use old mono Stren Hi Vis Gold 17lb test line. I've actually tried all the newer and very expensive fluorocarbon lines ( Spiderwire , Toray, etc ) and they still do not out perform this old primitive mono line.
The fish never see the colour or simply must love it, and it really helps my old eyes in locating a surface bait, and for night fishing, and whenever I'm tying a knot.
This line has never ever failed at a knot, or has ever snapped or broken at any time, and I personally have numerous 40 and 50lb. plus salmon and pike and muskies to my credit with this line.
The casting distance for the TE250DC with a 7ft Shimano Crucial Heavy Action 1 pc rod and the line stated above, was about 55 to 60 yards on a calm day, and 60 to 65 yds. with a wind at my back.
This is approximately 15 % more in distance, than my Daiwa PTA33 and my Diawa TDX 103HSDF Baitcasting Reels will deliver. Both these reels are earlier gems from different Daiwa eras, that were also produced in Japan. My next investment in reels will likely be the Shimano Calais 200DC.
I trust my review is helpful in your decisions. This is a super quality and very precise baitcasting reel, and like the rest of you, I do find the price a little extreme, but that old saying I guess still holds true -
You Only Get What You Pay For !
